It Never Rains in Southern California by Albert Hammond. It's heartbreaking.

Long Time Ago....words by George Pope Morris, melody by I don't know, but it's a gorgeous song.

When I Look at You from the Broadway musical The Scarlet Pimpernel.

Holy cow - speaking of musicals...geesh how could I have forgot..

Memories - from the musical "Cats"

Normally, I don't cry, at much of anything.  But wow, hearing/watching this sung live?  That was absolutely amazing, and it brought a tear to my eye.

Smile - Lonestar: Kills me still, and the life I led then is in the past... *sigh*

I was going to list the songs, but then realized that would be about the whole album... Mad Season - Matchbox 20: I SWEAR Rob Thomas was watching me... the whole album is nothing more than a biographical account of my life at a certain time... most of the time, a song will partially fit - this whole ALBUM does!!!

Finally, Run to the Water & Dolphin's Cry by Live. For varied reasons, the songs both kill me.

I can make any orchestral song sad in my own mind.  I can actually make some of the themes from Phantom of the Opera[That musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber] remind me of the tragic story of certain sci-fi civilizations I'm coming up with, even though most of the scores are about some girl in love, lol.  Sorry, don't know much about the story.  I've only heard some of the scores.

I agree on the DC Talk one.  I'm glad that some Christians have decided to actually write songs about the less desirable aspects of certain practicers of my religion.

I think that some of Phil Collins' music is really depressing.  I used to call him "Mr. Depression," lol, but now I like depressing music.  It's the best stuff to write to.

As far as titles are concerned, I can only think of a few:

Goodnight Saigon - Billy Joel[ESPECIALLY the part where he sings about the names]
Dreaming While You Sleep - Phil Collins
Tell Me Why - Phil Collins

"If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh"

Mexico - Trisha Yearwood

You Look So Good In Love - George Strait

OHHH!! JESSE!! NOO!!
Nothing Else Matters isn't a sad song! Is it? LOL! It wasn't to me. That was the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding!    I love it because I thought at the time that no matter what, in the end, we could seek trust in each other; and that we would do things the way we thought was best in our marriage (no matter how different) instead of listening and making decisions based on what everyone else felt about how marriage should be. Thats the way I looked at the song. Maybe it means something else? *shrugs* Its not really a sad song to me. Depends on what you get out of it I suppose.

Many old ones, sorry don't remember the singers on all of them.

Last Kiss- the saddest one ever, I think
Tell Laura I Love Her
Almost all country oldies...especially one about a little boy who talks to truckers on his CB radio. Anyone remember this, or the name?
Love Hurts-Nazareth
Walk Away Renee-Four Tops
Yesterday-Beatles
Eve of Destruction
For What its Worth
Whats Going on-Marvin Gaye

And my favorite disco song ever, but very sad in spite of the good tune
"Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston

I know there are many more that I am forgetting. Sigh..

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb, Time, The Gunners Dream (I think that's the name, it's from The Final Cut)

NIN: Just Like You Imagined (even if you don't like industrial music, I would suggest buying the fragile for that song alone. It's flooring.) Eraser, I Do Not Want This

Smashing Pumpkins: Disarm, Galapagos, Appels & Oranjes

Nirvana: Paper Cuts, Pennyroyal Tea, All Apologies, Heart Shaped Box, Milk It

Live: Waitress, Lightning Crashes

Hole: Doll Parts, I think that I would Die

Outside by Staind (the live version, not the album version)

Barbara O Riley by the Who

Mother Mother by Tacy Bonham

Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin

that's all I can think of right now

everything's fine.

And you reminded me that I forgot All I Want is You, by U2! That song just tears a chunk outta me and leaves it oozing owiness.

Ah, hell, I needed more songs anyway.

The Speed of Pain by Marilyn Manson (for obvious and personal reasons)
Siamese Twins by The Cure. Actually maybe the entire scarily broken mass that is Pornography, but especially Siamese Twins.
In the End by Linkin Park for nothing but personal reasons, since I don't even like the band. Or the song. Long story. But it kills me to hear.
I Give My Heart by John Berry. Yes, that's country. Again with the personal reasons.
I Gave you my Music from Phantom of the Opera (forget the lyricists, sorry!)
Wandering Child from Phantom
Phantom's Lair from Phantom
On my Own from Les Miserables. Whaa! Poor Eponine...
Finale version of Do You Hear the People Sing from Les Mis.
Prayers for Rain by The Cure. Expelling the sickness... *shiver*
Stolen Sidewalks by Bif Naked.
Tell on You (Letter to my Rapist) by Bif.

Um... I ran out again.

And maybe someone should start up a Hopeful Songs or something list... 'Cause your signature has now left One Song Glory permanently stuck in my head...

Without You from Rent (I can steal that one from you Dunc, since I got you into the CD!! Lol)

Ghost in You, and My Time, both by Psychadelic Furs (okay, couple tear stains on that album too!!)
Slow Song, and Breaking Us In Two, both by Joe Jackson
Blasphemous Rumours by Depeche Mode

had to come back and edit...I just saw Love Will Tear Us Apart....yeah...gotta agree with that one.

had to edit again to add one I'm listening to now

Brad!!!! I just listened to Wildfire the other day - OMG LMAO - that song should never have been recorded . . .
that and "Seasons in the Sun"
by Terry Jacks, as a matter of fact I have this album that are the hits of the seventies and gee - they are all really sad songs:

The Night Chicago Died
Hooked on a Feeling
Jolene
Me and Mrs Jones
Kung Fu Fighting (ok that is just SAD in itself)
I Will Survive
and then they go and put one cool tune on there:

"Cover of the Rolling Stone"

Puleeeez......my LIFE is a SAD SONG!!!  HaHa

no...really...I don't have twenty.  I don't have ten.  I only have one, and it said it all the first time so I never really named another SAD SONG my favorite!

My life ain't sad no more so I don't listen to the "tear in my beer" tunes like I used to.

...But, the one song that I have labeled MY FAVORITE SAD SONG is:

"A Heart Full of Rain"  By Colin Ray

Gosh, I think that just reading through other people's lists, I could easily find more than 10 or 20! But I'll just add two, which I'm pretty sure haven't been said yet...

"Lost Without You" by Delta Goodrem (get well, Delta!)
"Please Forgive Me" by Bryan Adams

When I was a little girl my Mom played a song that made me cry everytime.  I don't know who it was by (I am sure someone will help me out with this) but it was called:

"Honey"  it was a man singing about his wife that had died and how the angels came and got her...."Honey, I miss you and I'm being good"...oh lord what a tear jerker...

heck- I can't even name a single happy song I listen to anyway

add to my list "people are strange" by the doors. Heh, Raph reminded me of this one. just by talking. It's only really sad because they said "when you're strange, no one remebers your name..."
