Leave it Alone, by Moist. Absolutely heart-rending and tragic....

The loneliest words you'll ever know:
if only, if only it were so.

Hungry or Hunger by Temple of the Dog, chokes me up every time.
and from the old old old days
"Last Kiss" (the original-though the remake was just as sad)
Another oldie I think called "He's a Rebel"
Early 60's has so many sad songs
Gotta add November Rain by Guns and Roses
newer one by The Calling, and I can't remember the name. Aack.

In no particular order:
Power Of Love- Celine Dion
All My Life- Ronstadt and Nevill
(ok, Ok... not sad songs, but they tear me up every time I hear them... personal reasons)
Cat's In The Cradle- Harry Chapin (I lived it, and can't listen to it at all)
Against All Odds- Phil Collins
Tears In Heaven- God (uh... I mean Eric Clapton)
Memory- From the Musical Cats
All By Myself- Eric Carmen
He Stopped Loving Her Today- George Jones
Wildfire- Michael Murphy
In The Ghetto- Mac Davis
I'm Not Lisa (from the early 70's)
How Do I Live- LeAnne Rhymes
The Thrill Is Gone- B.B. King
Just When I Needed You Most- (Late 70's)

We see the light of those
Who find the world has passed them by
Too late to save a dream from growing cold...

Brad!!!! I just listened to Wildfire the other day - OMG LMAO - that song should never have been recorded . . .
that and "Seasons in the Sun"
by Terry Jacks, as a matter of fact I have this album that are the hits of the seventies and gee - they are all really sad songs:

The Night Chicago Died
Hooked on a Feeling
Jolene
Me and Mrs Jones
Kung Fu Fighting (ok that is just SAD in itself)
I Will Survive
and then they go and put one cool tune on there:

"Cover of the Rolling Stone"

Puleeeez......my LIFE is a SAD SONG!!!  HaHa

no...really...I don't have twenty.  I don't have ten.  I only have one, and it said it all the first time so I never really named another SAD SONG my favorite!

My life ain't sad no more so I don't listen to the "tear in my beer" tunes like I used to.

...But, the one song that I have labeled MY FAVORITE SAD SONG is:

"A Heart Full of Rain"  By Colin Ray

Gosh, I think that just reading through other people's lists, I could easily find more than 10 or 20! But I'll just add two, which I'm pretty sure haven't been said yet...

"Lost Without You" by Delta Goodrem (get well, Delta!)
"Please Forgive Me" by Bryan Adams

"Poetry and Hums aren't things which you get, they're things which get you. And all you can do is to go where they can find you."

When I was a little girl my Mom played a song that made me cry everytime.  I don't know who it was by (I am sure someone will help me out with this) but it was called:

"Honey"  it was a man singing about his wife that had died and how the angels came and got her...."Honey, I miss you and I'm being good"...oh lord what a tear jerker...

heck- I can't even name a single happy song I listen to anyway

add to my list "people are strange" by the doors. Heh, Raph reminded me of this one. just by talking. It's only really sad because they said "when you're strange, no one remebers your name..."
