Without a Dream
Without a dream,
There is no future,
No momentum,
No direction.

Without a dream,
There is no now of importance,
No steps to solution,
No actions of justice.

Without a dream,
Tomorrow is just another day,
Rolling on into a stream of sameness,
A sigh of boredom,
A shrug of indifference.

But...
With a dream,
People tranverse rivers,
Climb mountains,
Shoot for the stars.

Okay.. In the Teen Poetry forum yesterday, I posted a poem called "What is a Dream?" Allan thought it would be a good challenge to think about what a dream really is. I wrote the poem above to go with the idea...

So, reply and let's see how many answers we can get to that question: "What is a Dream?"

I'd say a dream would be..... the human body's built-in entertainment system. Think about it, where did the cavemen get all their artistic and surreal inspirations? From their crazy dreams!

Freud (who was pretty strange himself. lol) said dreams are wish fulfillments.
From some of mine, I think he was partly right.

But many times they are about things that happened in the course of the day, little seemingly insignificant things that triggered an expansion of the subject in sleep, and most of the time I don't remember them. I just know I was dreaming, but haven't a clue what it was about. lol
Others are the kind you're glad are not real when you wake up.
I've never had any of them come true. At least not yet.

Dreams, I think, are wishes given hope, hopes given wings, flights of fancy that take us beyond what we are to what we might be.

A dream can either be a goal or a state of being. I feel like I'm living in a dream, though it might not be scientrifically tru. So yeah. I'm going to stop confusing myself now...
