What do you do when you open a door to friendship and the person you offer friendship to just stands there? Do you close the door and back off? Why wouldn't someone commit to just being friends??

interesting....
there are times in life when you often meet people..that are like friends but some of them becomes more then a friend feeling that
develops a love feelings towards the other
well...i think thats why some just are at times not satisfied with only being"friends"
cause maybe they want something closer..
as for your question..i think its best to discover what those two people think of each other and understand whats best for each other and to make a descision instead of dragging it into the "i dont know what to do stage" so yea...communication is important instead of just closing the door on someone...if this is your situation i hope everything turns out the best for you...
and until next time..
ohh i know this might of not helped much but it was just my thought on your subject...cya

spooky....peeking into my life?!   normally, I have had a guy for my best friend for most of my life.....now that I am married, I have to respect my husband's feelings....he just isn't comfortable with me having a guy friend and sharing personal feelings with him....so when that happens I want to be friends....I just can't.   But with ladies....I can never have too many friends    SEA

I beat them up. Actually, I have given people this same impression, not knowing, especially my icq people...I've got over fifty people on there now...lol...and it's wonderful, but I can't possibly talk to everybody everyday. Maybe this person is just busy? Another thing is, sometimes I get so blue that I don't like to burden people with my mood--times like that I tend to just withdraw. So I guess I am saying, maybe it's not YOU...maybe it's just circumstances.

Hmm...well I can obviously only say how I perceive it - firstly, of course I doubt it's YOU...sheesh...lol...you're wonderful. So, that established heh...

I know that for myself I get busy and really BAD at keeping in touch...really really really BAAAAAAAAAAAD. I have 3 close close friends online who I talk to basically every day - and two of them on the phone too...(Yes, that's Jamie and Maree and one other who you do know). As for the rest of my online friends...er...my apologies to those who haven't heard from me for awhile ~blush~

...But it doesn't mean I don't love them...or think about them - it just means I am damned lazy and hate writing letters...

Real life? I'm just as bad, if not worse...I have my two best friends (married couple) who I see regularly...now they and I have a small circle of other friends who I love very much...they are all my favourite real life people...but do I call them often? Hell no! My best friends do usually...I intend to call them, really I do...no I come here instead heh and talk to my close online friends and ignore both the other people online and off hahahahaha..quite terrible.

Yes of course I do contact my other real life friends but the point I'm making is that I don't do it often enough, and I guess they can get the impression I'm not that interested in them...

The only way you can know (if this is a real incident for you) what the other person is thinking is to ask why...and that takes courage and perhaps the relationship isn't comfortable enough for that...

I wouldn't close the door...but let the person come to you - you can't force a person's hand when it comes to friendship...

but of course if one isn't happy waiting, then the door is already being closed...

I don't have many close friends.......but when there's a possibility of close friendship.....i never pass it up...and i don't let the other person pass it up either.

I know that when I meet someone, it's very rare that I just decide that I want to be their friend. I will sit to the side and watch them, even if they come try to talk to me, because I'm afraid of being hurt again. If I decide the person is worth being friends with, they will probably hear from me sometime, and then it's up to them.

It's really a tricky question. If the person is shy, then they might not be just standing there, but rather wanting and needing, but afraid to come closer.  Sometimes we have to put in a bit extra effort and see what becomes of it. Though there will be times when that door needs to be shut, or even, left slightly ajar, so as not to shut anyone completely out. Just be there, but make sure that it's healthy, that you aren't being used.  That's an awful feeling. If the person can't come forward, even after your efforts, then just leave them with the open invitation that you will be there, if they should choose.

With the word, I am mighty, with the pen I am free..
