Yes, you are the only one.  I can stop anytime I want and when I reach 97 hours straight without sleep, I will.  Relax...enjoy.  But do your homework, too!

i know exactly how you feel, my love for poetry alone could keep me on here for hours but all the different aspects of PIP that go beyond poetry (like the allley) keep me here for ridiculous amounts of time    do the work you have to do, but don't post any less, we would miss you

No, you are not, it's a connection.....it's a response, it's someone out there who reads your words, it gives you something, an emotional connection....it's real...you're not alone!

When you worry about not having a connection while you're supposed to be on vacation, that's addiction.

When you rush home from work/school and log on to PiP before you do anything else, that's addiction.

When you begin to talk about your friends here in the same way you do about the friends sitting next to you at work/school, that's addiction.

When you get jealous of someone because they have the time to write and post more than you, that's addiction.

Is it good? Any addiction when it interferes in your daily life (if you miss work/school) is not good for you.

How do I know all this? I'm a PiP addict. I never thought I'd stay here more than a month or so..that was in May of 1999... and today? Well...if you don't see me online or posting here, I'm probably sick....or too sick to hobble to the computer....

Now let's join hands and recite 'The Serenity Prayer'...God grant me...

Haha..... yes, everyone knows it.

Well I'd have to wonder if I am an addict... I personally think that I simply really really enjoy PIP.  Why can't that be the case, why must we all say it's some kind of "addiction?"

That's such an ugly word.  The reason I like PIP is because it's the first group of people that I ever knew who actually cared about poetry.  None of my friends care for it, and whenever I try to share all they say is "wow awesome" and stuff.

PIP was so refreshing to find, and it's definitely helping me to further my skill in writing.  Now, looking back on my first post here (which I was told "wow awesome" on), I am actually quite displeased with it.
PIP isn't an addiction... it's just a gathering of poets.  And since poets tend to be very passionate people, voila, we all don't just get into it... we get way into it.

And that's called "addiction," I guess.  But I really just think of it as something that I can finally do and enjoy.
A good family of poets is hard to find these days... no shame in logging on right after school.

sharon i totally agree with you on that one...i also think the more we share through hearts its more important then proving it through words...i think we as poets dont always have to reply to know that we addicted(care) we have are hearts that replys already soon as we read poems that we share...i think i repeated myself..oh.. well ..and addiction is from our love of poetry not our love for pride in are number of replys...tahts my opinion...cya~

Poets Anonymous:  Repeat after me

I am a poet and I can’t get enough
I must be strong and be rid of this stuff
This craving is strong but I shall be stronger
I will not read or write any longer

Now is the time to move on from here
The clouds are separating everything is all clear
I know there’s a poem just waiting to be read
But starting today I will take a walk instead

People are smiling and saying hello
Leaves are swaying with squirrels below
The sun is shining with birds in the sky
I’ve been missing all this and I don’t know why

Is it really poetry in pip that makes us come back for more, or is it the people the surround us here in pip?

Sharon, Albert -

I must say I'm a little more than displeased with your reaction to my statement.  In fact, I'm quite offended.
All that I said was "I have a high post count."  And all that that means is that I read and reply a lot, it's only somewhat indicitave of the time I spend in here simply because of my own tendency to reply to everything I read.  Which is, once again, my tendency.
I'm not so shallow as to reply like crazy simply because I want a high number.
The reason I read and reply in PIP is because people like to get replies.  It's one of the things that makes PIP what it is, if we didn't get replies we simply wouldn't have such an interactive level as we already do.
Suffice it to say I reply simply because I like recieving replies myself, and I know other people do too.  In fact, in that sense I'm a proud to be one of the Teen #4 omni-repliers that people can always count on to read and reply to their work.
I read poetry not only because I enjoy it, but also because people deserve to have their work read and I like to make people happy.
I don't like how you are all making me sound so shallow, I really don't appreciate it in the least.

I hope you think about this for a moment.

insect- great job on the poem..thanks for sharing it with us

acire-true..i think its one of those things that is impossible to exist w/o the other..as the poet and its poetry forms the unique whole..

faterider-i think that is how we truly get to know the poets is by their hearts...

allan-ok..i know those opinions had some affect to you but my thoughts were straight towards what i saw from that statement of yours..."Yeah well I'm pretty proud of my addiction.... I just registered in January, and I'm already #46 on the Top 100 posters page."...it seemed in a sense you were boasting of oneself...as to think like that in you stated your pride in your accomplishment...and i do acknowledge that...but the way you said that made me think...something else...but...i also think addiction(care) is not acknowledging the number...of course it shows that you care to at least reply to others...but that shouldnt be the main thing refered to showing your pride through it ...we should be humble of our words in times... though i truly respect you for being one of those people that reply and show thier sincere thoughts towards each others poems as you are not one of those selfish-people...so my apologies does go to you allan...i think i was to harsh..i'm sorry and hope this comes through as our acknowledging the misunderstandings of each others opinions my friend...

Well Albert, you still know me a bit better than that... the assumption about my motives was what I really took offense to in your reply.
I think you should realize that sure, I am proud of my post count.  Because each post represents either a poem read, a poem shared or a thought expressed in here.
And I like to think that I'm making a contribution to this family.  I have nothing against people who don't reply to everything they read, that's fine.
But it certainly doesn't give you the right to condemn me for being pleased with my numeric representation of my participation in these forums.

thats my opinion right now...i know i might been to harsh...but thats truly what i seen at that point of time...

I've copied your statements verbatim so you can see that I am not taking your words out of context.

First. I apologize that my statement offended you. It was not my intention. I was merely responding to your first statement about your 'numbers'.

quote:

Yeah well I'm pretty proud of my addiction.... I just registered in January, and I'm already #46 on the Top 100 posters page

quote:

I must say I'm a little more than displeased with your reaction to my statement. In fact, I'm quite offended.

Well, I have thought about it for a moment. Actually I've thought about this for a long time.

I don't believe I tried to make you sound shallow. I think you are truly interested in the poetry and the camaraderie here at Passions. But there is a heady pleasure in seeing the numbers climbing. That's why our friends post congratulatory announcements for us when we hit hallmark numbers. Frankly, I would rather no one noticed mine! When we began PiP, we were few. Achieving 1000 posts was an amazing feat. Today, with over 5,000 members, achieving 1000 posts is something one can do in a week if one spends a lot of time here.

When Teen Explorer took off into a 'chat' direction, I was pleased. Finally you had a place to meet and play and just talk. And that racks up the posts. There is nothing wrong with that.

But back to your original statement - your words sounded full of pride at achieving #46 in the stats. And that is what I have a problem with. Replying for replying sake isn't good for the poet or for the one who replies. (By the way, I know you are not one of those! I'm making a general statement here).

quote:

Well Albert, you still know me a bit better than that... the assumption about my motives was what I really took offense to in your reply.

I don't think anyone condemned you. I certainly didn't. If you look closely at my post:

quote:

Is it about the numbers??? You seem to be proud of the rising number under your name.. I challenge you to read and NOT reply..that's addiction. The other is ADDITION...

Do you see that there at the end? It's a little 'devil' smilie. That was put there because I knew I was going to be stinker and raise someone's hackles!

So again, I apologize.

I am so addicted that I am here in last months questions, reading and replying. I am not as bad as I was last year when I first started, I used to get up in the middle of the night to see if anyone had read my new poem. Now I'm all mature-I wait till morning
But just recently I found this forum, and I am afraid things are getting cranked up again.

I dream about it too......I had a dream that PoetDeVine was on the Opah Winfrey show and another lady from another poetry site was on it.....and the other lady was talkin about her poetry site and then PDV would say "yea but we have THIS and ours is better because of THIS" and then Oprah ignored the other lady and only talked to PDV haha.

I kind of wish I were addicted to this forum. I get little spurts of posting and replying all the time for a few days, then I'm too lazy to check back for weeks on end. It's one of those things you wish you could relpace your unhealthy addictions with. Right up there with carrot sticks and ice water.
