No Shadow Left

I walked in a dead land
full of scars and missiles
looking for sunlight
some food, a car, a factory
anything along the road

and I found some flowers
fighting and crowding
in the crevices
and soon began to name them
and to see them not as One
bustling angry clump
but one and one and one
I named one with 67 leaves a hyacinth
another with a brown stem and wicked teeth a buttercup
and still another a, big red vine
gorged in blood I named “morning lily”
and I called all of them “flower”
smiling while I did so
for that name was best and sweet
and full of hope for life remaining
and life yet to come
I gave them water
gave them light
gave them buildings and rooms
I straightened their branches
brushed the dust from their leaves

and then one strangled and ate the other
And in this dead land, this reversed land
the murdering vine grew a while and was happy
far from justice
as things once grew

and the other
seeing a chance to grow
and to stretch
did likewise to its brother
eating and growing
for a while

I etched it on all their epitaphs
they were what they were
no matter their name

Drac, I think you nailed humanity, not all but most.

I like it, but who is “I” ? Who has all that power ?

Is “I” an angel, a survivor or just unlucky ?

Best part:

quote:
I named one with 67 leaves a hyacinth
another with a brown stem and wicked teeth a buttercup
and still another a, big red vine
gorged in blood I named “morning lily”

Perhaps a little less didacticism and a little more description.
