When I reflect on times gone by, I feel
The friendship we have shared so many years
Has given me so much to help me deal
With life, good times and bad, even the tears.
You've always been there for me, by my side,
Through sunny days or clouds as black as night,
No storm could ever break us, or divide
Our friendship, for we always find the light.
I just could not imagine life without
The caring you have given me, my friend,
Your understanding ways, I have no doubt,
Say much about the love you do extend.
You are not only friend, but family,
You've made this world a better place for me.

P.S. Though I've used the rhyme scheme and format of a sonnet, I know that I have not used iambic pentameter. It is so difficult to achieve without using archaic words, and saying what you want to say. Even Shakespeare's sonnets did not have perfect meter (though for the most part, they did). So, in saying that, I will call this just a poem.

I want more tension here (but you already know that). As a meditation on comfort and friendship, what concrete metaphors come to mind to reflect that?
