Voices From The Graveyard

My whole life through I heard them clear
It was the voices of ones once near
They told me "I swear! You can do no right!"
It was quite a slight.

I fought, not them.
Their voices I would slight
If I were to condemn.
I knew they must be right
By inferring I'm not quite bright.
This was my lot in life.

I was introduced and led;
Face to face with my anger.
I was informed that it held danger.
I had held it in too long,
From too much listening to the wrong
Voices from the graveyard.

The first year of the rest of my life
There was plenty of strife.
As I remembered those pent up stings
They had planned to heal my wings.
But I was ignorant of the pain it brings.

After two years I thought I had won,
But my smile became one of dread.
After those years of my writing fun,
My fingers turned into lead.
And the journals I wrote as a giver I owed.
Made me glad to think I'd been led.

After three years I found the source, you see
You just assert and turn the key.
But I can't see words they block most things,
All the sadness it stills not sings.
Emotion is a river that just lives underground
With sweet replies above.

So take your cares
To the cliffs that are there,
And bid them all adieu.
Sent on their way
Upon the breakers today,
But to your chagrin
They return again.

Odd as it sounds this reminds me of that T.V. show on CBS called Ghost Whisperer.
Aside from that I enjoyed reading this.

...If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.

Thanks. You must not have liked it, then?  Sounds like something I would enjoy...did you say that it was an old one?

good poem except, alas:

"The first year of the rest of my life
There was plenty of strife"

can you think of nothing else to replace that word?

Yes Ghost Whisperer is on now in Oz. Quite a hit actually.
