Note: The title of this piece is taken from a famous Jazz piece by Les McCann & Eddie Harris called "Cold Duck Time".

COLD PIZZA TIME

Sucking on a gin and tonic and watching the world spin
Isn't so bad when you think about it.
The rat race is for suckers.
What matters most is this:
   A soft bed,
   A warm girl,
   A comfortable pair of shoes,
   And Jazz.

If you have a cel phone--heaven help your soul.

Pizza is a great philosophiser--
   Especially deep dish,
Covered in cheese, pepperoni and pineapple--
Which is highly underrated, I assure you.

The only thing better than pizza
   Is saxophone.
Unless it's first thing in the morning,
And it's cold.
Nothing beats cold pizza first thing in the morning.
                     Breakfast of champions.

Still, saxophone is a close second.

One day I want to open a deli--
It will serve cold pepperoni and pineapple pizza
While Charlie Parker plays over the speakers.
Corporate Rats will come in there in the middle of the day
To get their daily regimine of cheese.
They'll talk stocks and wonder why I never play Kenny G.

Thanks. I enjoyed a lot. Not sure the "cold pizza" theme really strikes the proper not, especially contemplating trying to sell it.

Somehow I really identified with the last line.

BIRD RULES.

I also really liked this, which is completely odd, because I usually don't like poetry by anonymous users on the internet.  But there is something about this that I relate to, something that really resonates.. it's just exceptional, I think.

Rainydaymusic, ask you a question. If you don't like poetry from "anonymous" people on the internet, then why are you on a board that is full of it?

Not that I'm trying to run you off, heaven forbid. Communities like this need every voice they can get. I'm just curious.

But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is I'm the only one!

I like to read what people are writing, the kind of things they want to express.. It gives a sample of my competition, doesn't it?  But to be honest, I've read dozens and dozens of poems on the forum and liked only a few.

i thought your relaxed, casual style was quite refreshing. this is a nice read, maybe a bit 'lite' for my taste, but nonethelees, i enjoyed it.
