The trees are alive today
A cluster of three deciduous trees
Bend, sway and flutter their leaves
As the early morning sunlight kisses their branches.

They lean toward a taller, more stately tree
A breeze causing their leaves to whisper
As the stately tree stands tall and erect
Its leaves barely moving, the breeze omnipotent.

The cluster of trees are like gossiping sisters
Leaning towards each other, reaching out
To the tall tree oblivious to their chatter
Its branches turning towards the morning sun.

The forest behind the chattering trees
Reaches to the sky, dark, silent, brooding
Deep green, shading to black shadows
It is silent, trees leaning neither left nor right.

It is the sentinel of time, standing forever
Slight summer breezes which catch the deciduous
Cannot penetrate the dark, thick forest
Its limbs reach out only to the sun and rain.

The little deciduous trees
Flutter and dance in errant breezes
The tall trees silently shelter forest animals
While the deciduous offer their branches for small nests.

A plastic bag, caught on a branch waves impatiently
Captive, unable to continue its journey
It becomes a symbol of our desecration
Of these lovely trees keeping watch over our history.

I observe the forest from my lanai
The hotel built on the edge of this forest
Probably required some of those trees to be cut
Because the owner saw dollar signs in the scenic wonder.

Respecting Mother Nature's handiwork
Was a thought alien to his dreams
Now, the forest is required
To stay a respectful distance from here.

We, too, are assisting this man's dream
By staying here, awed by its beauty
We gaze out at the forest from our lanai as we recline in our hot tub
And, we, too, are guilty of its desecration.

You have some nice images scattered throughout this one.

I liked that bit of irony at the end.

Nice read,

Sid

Thanks, Sid.  I realize this isn't an example of my best work, I just haven't posted anything for so long, thought I'd give it a try.  I appreciate your response, have begun to doubt I would get any at all.  It keeps me encouraged.
