Lasting Cheers

He took a sip to better days
For weeks, then months, they turned to years
Of cheers to health and cheers to friends
And cheers to drown the years of cheers...

The last of cheers -- to last of cheers
The bottle poured the final cheer
It jeered at life, then cheered to drink,
Then drown the cheers to death in beer

The son, he sipped to better days
While crying by his father's grave
He cheered to have him back again
A man that drank but never gave

The last of cheers -- to last of cheers
To skirts at bars, then fought with spouse
He drove too fast for city streets
He crashed into a corner house

The son of son, now son of sun
While crying by the grave of two
He drank the bottle mother gave
By lot of men he never knew

The last of cheers are lasting cheers
The boy became the wise of men
He took the world by storm while dry
He mapped his life with sober pen

Hi Always Lisa!  Very creative poem, which tells an interesting story.  I enjoyed this a lot.

Thanks, Lady. Surprisingly, this poem has faired pretty well on another forum that isn't shy on skill. I thought that this slice of ham would be chopped to shreds here and there.

I'm left to guess why it holds fair. Perhaps it will grow on me.

Thanks for reading.
Regards,
Always Lisa
