michael laid down
to look up
as he tried to fill in the lines
of a thousand nameless streets
and he pleaded to the soul
of the earth on its roll
and spoke a jam
of the people and their beats

he knew from up high
he'd never find away
but he'd never been
that high anyway
so he closed his eyes
and took a faithless leap
and fell into the realities
that were his dreams when he sleep
and as his dreams grew stronger
the streets grew longer
and his head was now his home
filled with those beats

well you have to know what you want
otherwise this is what you get
and all those crazy ladies said
that its just a silly bet
turned around into dreams and clues
tell me boy have you heard the news
all those crazy ladies left the casino
to pay their debt
stumblin with a drink in hand
passed out in the florida sand

las vegas is a good friend of mine
where the sunny lights will always shine
i left my home to find a way
went to vegas where the bums still pray
found some shelter in a cement box
saw my dreams through the holes in my sox

looking for a room in a hotel line
some cowboys told me some stories
to pass the time
and this punk rock kid
just laughed and shook his head

laying down so the sun can climb
staring at the mountains
i sung my rhyme
and some bums told me i could be a star
everythings for sale
open 24 hours
but its dirty
and there are no showers
so close your eyes
and have yourself a drink
looking for a quick release
instead of goodbye
i wish them peace
and from the cold valley wind
i begin to shrink
