Upon the heights, the sun still shines,
But down here though, there are no signs
Of daylight left.  The shadows creep
From tree to tree.  The small frogs peep
Their high-pitched song along the shore
And night invades the woods once more.
Out in the yard, I keep my eyes
Trained on those hills where last light lies
And marvel at the varied hues,
The sinking sun their slopes embrues.
I watch until the dark conspires
To hide away those lofty spires
And feel my way into a room,
To light a lamp and see it bloom
Into a glowing, amber core,
That pushes night outside my door.

Intriging, I like it

Don't ever give in, if you do you've lost everything you've ever had and everything you hope to gain, but if you carry on your already winning.

A beautiful piece Trillium
Perhaps now you might.......
See a beam of light from the Harvest Moon
Cast a golden glow there inside your room.

Hey Trillium,

I loved this, you write so vividly

The flow was great as well, but I felt there was a little bump in the 8th line....

"Trained on those hills where last light lies"
maybe leave out the "those" and possibly a comma after hills.

Just an opinion

Maree

Dark Angel:  Thanks for you comments and I do appreciate your reading the poem.  I wrote it with an 8 count meter.  If I leave "those" out of the 8th line, it destroys the meter and I don't feel it serves the poem well to do so. However, I am always open to suggestions and enjoy other opinions, so thanks for voicing yours.
