                                                                                                                                                          We humans are surely a strange breed,
We only look after our own selfish need;
To hell with others is our careless remark
When off to destruction we embark.

Our lakes and streams are for our use
But those, too, suffer man’s abuse;
When into the water many want to jump
They see that others have chosen to dump

Their trash,  seen floating up on the shore,
Swimming here now will be no more.
The gasoline floating upon the water line..
More careless actions of yours and mine.

The woods that have long been home
To the animals that choose to roam;
Are almost barren now.. the mighty tree
Is no longer as far as the eye can see.

It’s business as usual in the government’s eye,
While all around us our resources die;
Where will it end? No one dares to ponder,
For deep in our hearts, we know..and wonder

How much longer will our earth survive?
Will we see its demise while we’re still alive?
As families stand by and see their herds
Taken away with no comforting words.

Much of this on ourselves we’ve brought,
And many a lesson we’re severely taught;
I pray we’ll make amends before it’s too late
And we become vehicles of our own fate.

Very pointive poem, and I agree you. Everyone needs to take their small part in keeping this world a beatiful place, even if is just keeping a litter bag in your car and not throwing anything along the highways. There would be a huge improvement if everyone did this. I could write a whole book about this, you have hit on one of the subjects that is a big concern for me too.

Wonderful topic.  Not many of us stop to think about what we're doing to the earth.  Very powerful message, nicely written!

A good message here, my friend, told from your heart, as usual.

good piece, Gloria. man may destroy himself with his own carelessness and greed but the earth will survive and recover long after man is gone to his fate.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Good message. I agree with pegasus that the earth will survive. She is ever changing and Man may not be in her future plans, but there is no since in speeding up our demise.
