One lonely gray hair appeared
I plucked it out
Too young I said for this
For it wasn't very long ago
You weren't old enough to drive

Another gray hair appeared
No I won't have this, I said
And it too was plucked out

Then they began to come in two by two
And I said this will never do
So I took Lady Clairol's advise
And washed that gray right out of my hair
And I smiled
As I looked in the mirror
Thinking now I had the solution

Then my previous smiles began to linger
All over my face
As crows feet turned up
At the corners of my eyes
And wrinkles appeared on my brow
My skin got kind of droopy
And my jowls began to hang down

Then I looked in the mirror
At my beautiful hair
Saying to myself
Who are you kidding?
You are a sight for sore eyes
Your hair may be pretty
But its begun to thin out
And it doesn't match your skin
I think it's time for a change
There is clearly no doubt

Just because your eternal youth
Is still bubbling
Doesn't mean you shouldn't look your age
So I had a discussion with myself
And the young person in me said
It is time to find out if blondes
Have more fun
It's time to find out if young men
Will offer this little old lady a seat
Or if a boy scout
Will offer to walk me across the street

It is time for me to put on my
Old lady disguise
Get rid of my false colors
And wear the silver crown
That you worked so hard to earn

So I'm giving you fair warning
Look out world
Here comes a young lady
In tennis shoes
Wrinkled skin
And white hair
Incognito child
She's ready to play!

And yes give me
That senior citizen discount!

Oh, I love this. Grey hair, droopy jowls and crows feet do not an oldster make, if the spirit is young. Keep on a keeping on.
I like your poem though. Joyce

I see nothing to criticize here. I just recently decided to stop dying my own hair. It seemed like a losing battle anyway. (I used to pluck them, too.) I like your attitude!

Great, I've decided to let my hair go. I'm not sure what color it is. Well, I know that part is gray just not sure about the other part.

I ended up with quitting the dying of the hair as well. I figure I've earned every one of them and though not ready for that senior citizen discount, I will be soon. Love the poem.

How can you save me?

from my front walk and into bed,
where it kisses my face and eats my head. Shivaree

Wonderful poem and you are so right, why fight the inevitable, might as well embrace the truth...after all, we're only as young as we feel...so let's all feel younger than springtime! Love, Ellie
