How many lovers stand tonight,
Beneath the moon's bright ray;
And sigh and whisper loving words
And plan their wedding day?

The harvest moon is full tonight
And just as brightly beams,
As when we last sat under it
And shared our cherished dreams.

My head was on your shoulder;
Your arm around my waist.
Our blissful future stretched ahead;
This but a sweet foretaste.

We claimed the moonlight as our own.
We could not be denied.
We had a few short years and then,
Fate took you from my side.

I gaze upon the moon tonight;
Alone and feeling sad,
But I would not exchange them,
Those happy years we had.

Our love for one another,
Like an old familiar tune,
Comes back to haunt my memory;
Bewitched there by the moon.

A love that's true is worth the while;
Though ending much too soon.
I close my eyes and you're still here,
Beside me 'neath the moon.

You write sweetly and tenderly of memories of a happier time, and of the comfort you find in remembering. I would like to think your loved one sees these words, and enjoys the memory with you.

To love another person is to see the face of God.

I feel your sadness in this lovely poem, yet How beautifully you dwell instead upon the cherished memories of a wondrous love...how blessed you are to have his love ever alive in your heart.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Such sadness here...but oh the experience. You tell the tale so well! Thank you...this was written by one that knows the meaning of love!

Marilyn, Ellie and Jamie thank you. Oh yes, we were meant to stay together forever but God had other plans. He figures in many of my poems. Joyce

this was lovely Joyce. very well written. I especially enjoyed the positive feelings it gave me. not easy to keep your head up when you are faced with tragedy.

Such a strange creature is loss, but a love that's true is worth the while. I'm glad you are able to think so too.
