I awaken in the morning
Before the rays of light
And pause for just a second
To wonder at the sight

I listen to your breath
Sleep still claiming you
And gently touch your hair
My fingers running through

Your skin so soft to my touch
Heart still beating slow
Cannot express the emotions
Which then begin to flow

You are my only angel
From heaven unto me
And I shall love no other
As it will always be

I used to cherish night
As my favorite quiet time
Until you inspired me
To awake in this morning time

So I will kiss you softly
And cuddle you in my arms
Keeping you safe in my grasp
Away from all worldly harms

I will listen to the sparrow
Chirping his morning song
And thank God for the chance I have
To be with you so long

So beats my heart for you
My dearest now and forever
Till you awaken in this light
And we embrace the morning together

Wikket, this is love written in beauty. I want that kind of inspiration to wake me in the morning. I like the flow and rhyming scheme!!! Though this stanza would sound better with the addition of one word;

I will listen to the sparrow
Chirping his morning song
And thank God for the chance I have
To be with you "for" so long

Don't get me wrong, I loved it!!!

ah, how blessed you are to have such a love, and he to have you to write such magic for him!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Wobbly Head Bob: Well thank you. You know, I originally wrote it with the 'for' in that stanza. Guess we think alike there... To me though, it sounded like too much. Thank you for your comments!

ellie: Yeah, it is pretty special to have someone like him in my life. I find new things to love about him every day. Thanks for commenting!

Thanks again everyone!

Oh my my my....this...is a simply wonderful piece Jamie...truely...I used to got to bed at 11pm..and wake up at four am(( I know I know BUT ...I have always said I was eccentric..)) ..because the sunrises where I was at the time were so spectacular and I treasured them so....reading your poem..makes me wish i could go back though..and find someone special to share them with....deep sigh....guess I'll just have to live vicariously through your poem

Sol: I'm glad you've experienced the morning light of which I speak...and I too wish, that somewhere in the near future, you find that special someone to share them with as well! Like I said before, if I wasn't taken...hehehehe jk Thanks for your comments Sir Sol!

Jamie, this is lovely. It's almost enough to make me want to wake up early, if only there were someone to share it with! I really like the new pic, btw.

Jamie..what a tribute to the one you love. Sunrise is also my favorite time of morning..just to let your mind wander and drink in all the beauty and sounds of nature. Very very nice........Twilah (Gloria)

Lovely work, but I've been known to stay awake all night, just to stay in this kind of moment

Don't ever give in, if you do you've lost everything you've ever had and everything you hope to gain, but if you carry on your already winning.

Marilyn: Well, garsh...thank you! I'm really not that photogenic...don't know how I made that picture come out well! Thank you for your comments, and no worries about the man...there's always pretend!

twilah: Why thank you! Yes, my other half liked it so well he framed it! Thank you for your comments!

Moon Dust: Hey, I've been there too. In fact, one of my other poems (on my website) named 'Endless Night' explains my dwelling in the darker times! Thanks for your comments!
