I dedicate this poem to Michael, a special friend of mine who recently went blind through an illness. He was very depressed at first, but has now accepted it really well.

*********************

Memories

Things I once took for granted
I now consider enchanted
now that I am blind
these memories are always on my mind.

Pretty girls in the street
policeman on his beat
cat curled up on the sofa
the fizz of a soda.

Raindrops falling on dusty ground
pretty flowers all around
moon and stars at night
birds of prey in flight.

Little children at play
dogs tails wagging all day
seas of blue and green
lottery numbers on the screen.

Water spouting from the hose
reading poetry and prose
warm tender smile from my wife
first steps of my baby's life.

Expressions on people's faces
my daughter's first braces
reflections in the glass
are memories that will last.

Jos,
This is a wonderful poem of tribute to your friend, whom I am sure will be delighted by it. I enjoyed the way you use so many wonderfully descriptive phrases to capture the specialness & essence of so many otherwise ordinary things of life, which we have long since taken for granted. I trust it will be a blessing to him, even as you are yourself.

Jos, This is incredibly beautiful and Yet, so sad. I am happy that he has accepted it. He is surely blessed to have a friend like you! Love, Ellie

This is a great reminder to us to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, to savor the miracles that are part of every day. Thank you for sharing this, and best wishes to you and your friend.

Wonderful poem.. it sometimes takes a tragic event to make us realize what we truly have. Yet, there are many forms of seeing... the best is to see from the heart. Nicely written.

This is a wonderful warm hearted poem you have written for your friend. I am sure all the memories he holds dear will be a treasure to forever hold, but I believe the best memories of all are the ones we can touch and feel within our hearts.
I pray blessings on him, and also for you, for being such a kind friend.

Sometimes we only apperiate things when we lose them and I've done this in so many diferent ways. Nice work.
