In Silence of the Night

Lying back, sounds of crickets
breaking my silent thoughts,
as trying to dream once more,
has become almost an artform.

Lighting candles, vanilla,
my favorite, to enhance my senses,
enticing my mind to remember
to feel, to want and desire.

What once was is gone,
taking from me the strength
to pursue life's forces and
leaving me weak from need.

If only, two words of no meaning,
yet they keep escaping my lips in sighs,
wanting to exile them to that corner
in my mind and heart where the"forever lost" resides.

So hard it is to give up routine
even one's that have made you suffer.
So numb to the pain that you almost
can't exist without the hurting.

Here I lie, tonight in the warmth,
soaking in thoughts of the now,
inhaling the smells of tomorrow,
releasing a little at a time, yesterday's dreams.

And in the silence of the night
you shall come to me,
in the steamy mysts that reign
merely a dream, but my future's hold.

This is beautiful, Wynter.  It's a real struggle to feel again after a loss. Writing like this is a good start.

Wynter our hearts are in sync in this lovely poem. I soooo know how you feel. I'm just getting through knowing this too will pass.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

well I thank you for your thoughtful words, I have had so many losses in this past 3 years, I can't seem to figure which one I am grieving...and anyway..how do you lose 30 years of memories, besides.

Songbird,
I am glad you enjoyed them. "A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams..John Barrymore"..sighing~ I will have to remember this..although I am on my way towards old and I may tend to forget...
