Am I thirsty?
I think so,
So I'll go have a drink.
If I'm hungry,
I'll eat
And sate my hunger.
I'll appease my appetites,
Knowing that I rule them
And could shut them out
At any time.
Sleep?  I don't need it.
Food?  Only for the weak.
Liquid?  I'm already
90% water, who needs more?
Love, affection,
Close companionship?
They're shut out
WIth the rest of those
Animalistic desires,
Outside of my island fortress.
I am a rock
An island like no other man.
Who needs these cravings,
These perishable goods
And services?
To what end
Do I seke them for?

and I met a man on the road of life, and he was alone by the side of the road, with his back to the traffic. thinking he might need help, I stopped, and placing a hand upon his shoulder, I was about to ask, when the man crumpled in my hand, falling to the ground in a swirl of dust and dried pieces, like clay exposed to the sun too long. He was but a shell of a man you see. Empty of life. Shaking my head in sorrow, I walked on. Happy to experience the simple joys of this world for a little while longer.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Can't say you've succeeded in annoying me, gofor, but I do wonder who you're writing about here.  Is there really anyone who thinks he is above basic human needs, and if so, is he a rational being?  You are definitely always interesting to read.

You make me think of a man that i always meet, hes a common man. with no wife and no kids. just himself and his wine.

All i ask in life is a beautiful woman to love, and a little sip of faygo too... MCL

I think I'm maybe writing about every man here, folks...I think that many people believe that since humans are rational, reason-based beings, that we can overcome whatever base and animal instincts we have and become something a little more...and I'm just trying to show that those people are just a wee bit silly.

gofor42:

I like this poem. However your quote isnt my favorite. I agree people that think they don't need these things are silly and are only going to end up alone and dead at an early age. Keep up the good work.

The closer we get to God, the more in tuned we are with our own humanity and weekness, thus His strenth and His care of us. You just described the opposite, arrogance and pride and selfishness, that are always deadly.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
