Madness

She guessed she'd always known that she was mad.
How else could one explain the things she did?
And yet, the thought of "normal" made her sad,
And so, the best she could, her deeds she hid.
Yes, at the oddest times she danced with joy.
It really didn't matter when or where.
Her cheerfulness, she knew, would oft annoy.
She smiled at strangers, though it made them stare.
She heard her mother's voice when quite alone,
Saw magic in the most peculiar places.
Although she was supposed to be full-grown,
She entertained herself with silly faces.
And even though it made her seem insane,
She never tired of playing in the rain.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

I love sonnets and this one is lovely (not mad). I wish I could write more sonnets like this. --Gene

Ellie -     Thanks for the delicious.  I was kind of hoping I wasn't the only one.  Suppose I should have given it a different title, to throw the Nurse off?

Munda - Thank you.  I'm kind of caught up in the form lately, partly because I was encouraged to do more by a friend who has published some of my earlier work.  Glad you like them.

Pegasus - Thank you.

Gene - Thank you very much. I think what you write is just lovely.  I was just trying to think of something different to do with sonnets.

Ranea - Thanks.     I was just thinking about what "normal" people do.

Songbird -     You, too?  You better watch out for that Nurse, too.

Denise - Thank you!  It is nice to see a lot of sonnets being posted, isn't it?
