FYI...a Soldier's Woman..came first...

Blood. It tastes like steel.
somehow colder still by far
amidst the smoke and burning towns
i wonder where you are
do you still sit beneath our tree
upon the Winterhill
laid in sunshine lost in clover
until you've had your fill?
the black powder burns and roars
and sends good men to Hell
yet how i long for love-filled vows
and the ring of wedding bells
i'm coming home my darling
with shining wedding ring
so wait for me with hope-filled heart
and of our love we'll sing.

Deeper still, Sol!  The agony in this one burns very true for me!  Very descriptive!  Somehow, I was pained by your description;  hope it is not foreshadowing for me!

Thanks Wikket....I have never been a soldier....most likely I never could be one....but the ways of them..and those that love them...is always...compelling..to me at least.

I really liked this one Sol..great read..I have been that man..you have captured the feeling very well.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Nice little follow up. Great one!

Thanks...for reading...for likin..I am surprised..as it is ' darker ' than most of what I write...and in all truth..I look at it now...and I recognize the man...a character I once played...Little Rhi's father...Silas MacCord...who's Little Rhi???
*G* go back a few months....she has a bunch of poems in here...the 'woman'Si belongs to...i have not really written about...cept for the one " For My Favorite Cheeky Blue"

So lovely Sol... reality of war and the hope of love that awaits..written exquisitely! Ellie  ( will there be a third and final happy ending?)
