Yesterday, when I was young,
and life was fresh and new,
hope danced lightly in my heart,
and cares were but a few.

My dreams were bigger than the sky,
the days were warm and bright,
I faced each test with confidence,
nothing could dim the light.

Yesterday, somewhere, somehow,
the road took a sudden bend,
time just passed me slowly by,
and the dream began to end.

I stumbled on that twisting road,
and fell, more than you know,
now bruised and hurt, I staggered on,
not knowing where to go.

The sun went down and it grew cold,
night spilled it’s frosty chill,
fear began to grip my heart,
despair to sap my will.

I wept then in the lonely dark,
self pity my only friend,
how could this be, and why to me,
was it all now at an end?

Night gave way in it’s own good time,
to a dull and hostile day,
and I saw the pieces lying there,
in hapless disarray.

One by one, I picked them up,
to salvage what I could,
some I saved for future use,
but some were just no good.

Now I continue on my way,
this new life just begun,
much different now than the one before,
yesterday, when I was young.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

This piece reminds me of a three part painting I saw at a gallery here in DC, it starts out with a young child surrounded by angels, brightness, happy, and he was boarding a boat.  In the next frame the boy had grown somewhat and those once merry waters were now dangerous and swelling with lightning crashes, the boat was somewhat torn.  In the third and finaly frame was an old man in a badly beaten boat, the waters were calm again, still, and there again was a light...the same from which his boat began he was again returning.  Cycle of life...depicted so wonderfully here that I could actually remember a painting.  Well done!

Life's road does have some unexpected turns, for sure, and it takes a long time sometimes to see what good we got from them.  I enjoyed reading this - thoughts and form worked well together.  The key, as you seem to say, is to pick up the pieces and see what you can make of it, then go on, maybe not so confident, but having learned much.

To love another person is to see the face of God.

Oh, Pegasus~
This is a wonderful piece.
It took on the effects of a slide show -
depicting the stages of a life.
Quite nice, dear poet.

Hey I was just thinking this, Nice work tho

Life has got to chnage,
Nothing stays the same,
Soon it will be time,
For me to move on.

Wisdom gained only from the experiences of life, taking what we need from the debris and growing toward the serenity of acceptance of our true self. You have magnificently described the journey in flowing poetic beauty. Ellie

this reminds me of something i read:there is no point in planning for tomorrow, for no one knows what tomorrow will bring...

a pessimistic view im afraid but indeed, how many of us can successfully fulfill our childhood dreams....the best thing we all can do(after succumbing to reality) is to make the best out of what is before us...

really good poem..i really relate to it....
