This was inspired by "Rhyming Man" by Pegasus111.

The Rhyming man lives in us all.
And though some sneer his gamesome call
is juvenilely anti-art,
I'll say he's golden in his heart.
He dances 'cross each epoch's pages,
quite unmindful of the ages
men of pedantry assigned.
His mark and voice we'll always find.
Regardless of surrealist bent
his verbal fooleries are sent
to cause us laughter, anger, spite.
Sometimes his spewings just ain't right.
But much to modernists' dismay
they somehow can't negate his day.
And though he lacks the austere tones,
the blank verse styles and heavy drones
that most describe today as "in"
to oust him from our ears is sin.
And yes I will agree,
he's often daft in his philosophy.
When scrambling for dipiction
oft his diction causes friction
in those minds more apt to sublte taste.
How thinly of that rhyming paste
will they bedaub the poet's page.
They feel his noise don't fit the sage,
that ideal wiser poet
who has outgrown former means,
and hates all metrical machines.
But still the rhming man rhymes on
(and never will he go alone).
His music grants us smiles in life.
His jingles hebetate the strife
and helps all bards and poet-types
to sometimes just suspend their gripes
and leave the somber misty halls
for fields where lightsome language calls.
And so since none have ever slain him.
Perhaps I'll say it's best we train him!

Stephanos; This is most excellent! We could all use a little training, I'm sure! Ellie

this was a delightful read, Stephanos. Although not in favor today, rhyme has it's merits. I find that it improves my vocabulary and discipline as a writer. This seems to help my free verse become tighter. good job here.

Life has got to chnage,
Nothing stays the same,
Soon it will be time,

Cool!  Even internal rhymes.  The nice place about Passions is there a place for all styles, and many of use enjoy sampling several of them.  Good response.

Some time ago I felt the need for some training and therefore ended up in the Poetry Workshop. Any idea what Nan feeds you there ?  Sonnet, Vilanelle, Haiku, Ballad, Free Verse, Pantoum, Limerick, Epic and every form you can think of ! No wonder I've gone nuts.
Great poem Stepanhos !
