Give me a quote
And you’ll get my vote’
Oh politician grand’

‘On polling day
You’ll have your say
Now come and shake my hand’

‘When you get in
You’ll commit no sin?’
Oh politician grand’

‘No sin you’ll see
You can count on me
Now come and shake my hand’

‘The lawful limit
You’ll stay within it?
Oh politician grand’

‘Now let me think
Not another drink
Now come and shake my hand’

‘And what about fidelity
Its very hard to stay you see?
Oh politician grand’

‘As gods above
I’ll ration my love
Now come and shake my hand’

‘And what about the sick and poor
When they come knocking on your door
Oh politician grand’

‘I’ll give you health
And spread the wealth
Now come and shake my hand’

‘If all that you say is true
How can I believe in you?
Oh politician grand’

‘Just cast your vote
You’ve got your quote
Now come and shake my hand’

‘Just one more thing
Can you sing?
Oh politician grand’

‘I find you quite infuriating
Your questions are so irritating
Now come and shake my hand’

‘If I shout hard
Will you call your guard?
Oh politician grand’

‘You’ve had your say
Now go AWAY!!
I don’t want to shake YOUR hand’

Bit of a protest type groove at the moment.........but it'll pass.

Ah, yes, the politician 'quotes'. It's amazing that they even bother, as they always come back to haunt them later. But then they just rationalize why they aren't fulfilling what was promised. Do they really think people believe them? Perhaps they just don't really care whether they are believed or not after the election. Good poem, Jon!

This one is good, I like it.  It sums up a lot of people's feelings about politicians very well.

You've captured the present circus well!

With politicians, it is never enough said!  Pretty much hits the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned.
