A light snow has covered the leaf pile, Summer's flowers have wilted and gone, But the rose bush off in the corner, Keeps singing her sweet petaled song. There are buds just starting to open, And blossoms as large as a hand, Those sturdy stems filled with thorns, Just refuse to relinqish their stand. Glistening layers of red velvet, From ice encasing the bloom, Scarlet shimmers in sunlight, Soft crimson in beams from the moon. A sweet reminder of summer days, This spirited rose standing tall, Filling her corner with color, Through the dreary days of fall. |
