Falling is like a little death.
Death is a substitute
For some artificial sweetener.
Emotions are foreign
And wold war a domestic issue.
I smile a feral grin
And talk of civilized things.
Chuckle as you twist the knife
In your friend's back,
But wear gloves -
We don't want fingerprints.
Dying is a little death
And death is a substitute
For life.
Life is the artificial sweentener
That makes death taste so bitter.
Life is a series
Of regret and regurgitation,
Rehashing the same old
Theories and opinions.
Thinking is a little death
That inspires a sweet taste
In this thing we call "life."

This is an interesting, but somewhat cynical read.  It makes me think of the song "Every Day a Little Death" from A Little Night Music.  If you're not familiar, you might want to look it up.

To love another person is to see the face of God.

Thanks for your interpretation.  I don't know if that's how I originally wrote it (I'm not sure what was running through my head at the time), but your take on the piece seems fairly accurate.  Thanks also for the musical suggestion.

Well thinking is a little death if your dealing with memories and nostalgia I suppose.......but it can also be a little birth if your dealing with hope and Ideas......don't you think?

Enjoyed

Thanks for the thoughts...I guess thinking can be a little birth as well.  Of course, there's also the point that "as soon as you're born you start dying," but that's just Cake's opinion.
