A Tear Formed in My Heart

A tear formed in my heart today
It lingered there a while
As I sat vigile by your bed
Beside your thin profile

The tear was felt down in my soul
And swelled to see your pain
My very core of happiness
Was cut and slowly drained

The tears of sorrow multiplied
And filled my aching heart
To think that we would somehow be
So cruelly torn apart

The drops within me filled the well
Of sorrow to the brim
Until my eyes could bearly keep
The troubled tears within

And so they fell upon my face
And swelled my weary eyes
And  ran profusely down my cheeks
In streams of  painful “whys”

But suddenly I glaced at you
And there upon your face
Was one small tear of happiness
That left a teardrop’s trace

And through the tear I saw you smile
And slowly turn to me
You said why do you question
Everything that’s meant to be

Just think of all the years we had
The love of  family
Would you so question all those splendors
Also meant to be?

Elizabeth, this piece is so sad, and yet so wonderfully happy.  Life is a cycle depicted with grace with your words.  The scheme was great, the message was real.  Life is a celebration, as (atleast I think) is death.  Much congrats on a well-written, well thoughtout piece.

This is a very nicely structured poem, with a beautiful thought.  I like the contrast between the two tears.  It is hard to let go, even when we are sure there is something better waiting for our loved ones.  You express that very nicely.

Oh my Liz, I can't begin to tell you how this piece has affected me.  I just read it to my husband and he had the same reaction.  I only hope that in all the years to come I can remember your beautifully written, heartfelt words...Trust me when I say that they have already put many questions to rest for me.  Thank you for sharing this, and God Bless you and yours.  Bonnie

*sniffles*  Oh wow.  This hit me hard.. very beautiful..

With a little piece of tomorrow,
You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye.
Because today won't last forever,
And the past will only make you cry.
