For my Best Friend, Chris...

The Greatest Man I Never Knew

Green eyes like precious stones
From a palace far away
A heart made from solid gold
Brighter than the brightest day

A soul that harbors great secrets
Revealing them to the few he lets near
A mind deeper than the oceans
Sailing it will take away your fears

A body carved from stone
Like Zeus in a mythological tale
Each muscle defined so perfectly
Painted with elaborate detail

His love, like a great mystery
No one in the world can figure out
Even the people who know him the best
Are often left with doubt

I fell in love with him many times
Twice he has broken my heart
But our one promise never changed
The promise to never let our friendship part

I do not know him as well as I should
For as long as I have been around
What I do know is that he needs me now
And I will never let him down.

LL,
I am both amazed and scared to death.  You just perfectly described my best friend.  Wonderful descriptions and such a loving devotion.  Thank you so much.

A beautiful, well written tribute to your best friend.  Have you given this to him yet?  If so, I am sure that he will cherish it for always and it will make your bond deeper and maybe he'll reveal more of himself to you so he's not as much as a mystery    This is your best poem to date

Take care,

I too felt the coldness of one who said they could love, but those words were empty. Words in the moment, not lasting, not the stuff of eternity and heaven. The stuff of this world, empty like materialism. And as lasting as those words, but my love for her were said with eternity in them, but these two worlds of infinite and finite are what have destroyed me. Left me high and dry, bitter. So bitter was I left. Thus I feel for you and know where you are coming from.

Dear beth' This is beautiful! Will you let him read it, maybe the question is, will he be able to face his own truth? and will he be able to see the beautiful words you've written with your heart? Love, Mom

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.
