He sipped the smooth and warm red wine
Just by the neon of the… exit sign
A lonely heart in search of love
He had never kissed the dove
He shuffled ‘round the old bar stool
And wondered if he played the fool
Someone would come and pity him
See his plight and take him in
The Smokey room was almost bare
Then suddenly a vision there
Caught his eye and he was smote
He drew his light put down his coat
The woman was paradise sitting there
She ran slim fingers through her hair
And as she sat he questioned why
Misty tears seeped from her eye
Her face was chiselled by De’vinchi’s hand
Her back the colour of pure soft sand
Her form was sculptured perfect stone
Why was it that she sat alone?
She caught him glancing from afar
Lent more heavy on the bar
Drank her second shot of gin
Whispered ‘Hi’ and let him in
He slipped down from his lonely stool
Walked up to her.. played it cool
‘Can I get another drink
Have a chat what do you think’
Her agreeing nod a welcome sight
Perhaps his luck had changed tonight
He slipped in closer touched her skin
A shudder shook the soul of him
She was so sensual her scent was strong
He couldn’t work out just what was wrong
They raised their glasses’ to you and cheers
Tell me why you shed your tears’
Her sobbing stopped a little while
She drew a breath and raised a smile
‘I was happy when the evening started
Now I’m sitting here just broken hearted
My man has found another one
When I got home his things had gone
He just meant the world to me
I loved him so but didn’t see
The feelings there were all one-way
And now I’m crying here today’

------------------------------------
If only he could find the phrase
He’d keep her happy all her day’s
But’ I’m sorry’ is all he could find to say
And his chance right there just slipped away
They sat there in the smoke filled bar
But their conversation didn’t go to far
Exchanging thoughts and the odd small joke
When he walked home his heart felt broke
She disappeared in to the thankless night
The whiskey had made his head feel light
With every step he felt alone
The pavements glistened with cold wet stone
He turned the key the and swung the door
Returning on his own once more
He glanced again at the streets so dead
A willing lover………..a lone cold bed

Jon; Wow! I was mesmerized from beginning to the end. What a romantically sad story, but you sure wrote with a magical pen here, it flows like a dream! Wonderful! Ellie
P.S. thank you, Jon, for your replies to my poems, I look forward to what you have to say.

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

A epic tale of a lost love night.  Your words painted every sight.  Great writing enjoyed to read.  A work of art and wondrous piece.

Jon,
Simply wonderful.  Beautiful.  I am left speechless and in tears.  The pain of being alone is something all of us have to surpass at one point or another.  Love heals everything.
