All the leaves
are sighing,
so weary are they.
It is deep summer.
Flowers in profusion
of colors,
bursting with their
last heralding
of falls
coming frosty nights,
that will send them
into a deep sleep,
and then the awakening
of the trees finale
of colors bright,
red and yellow and orange,
announcing their final
dance in colored
clothing gay,
before they too sleep
winters deep slumber,
when frost will
encase their branches
in diamond crowns
of iridescent ice,
as white royal robes
of winter,
cover the hibernating
seeds of spring.

I can smell the leaves burning.. the slight chill at night..lovely, Ellie

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

How I love your poetic musings and masterful imagings. This one reminding us of how soon we are conditioned by the various seasons- lovely in their own right, to begin to desire the next as life goes on.
It is a lovely description of the changing of the seasonal guards!

Ellie~
Ya' sure got a way with words, lady !

I love the season of fall ...
but glad I don't have the snow to contend with.

Lovely images.

I really like this, Ellie.  The changing of the seasons are my favorite times of the year, and fall is by far my favorite season.

You can paint a mental image as vivid as real colors on a cavas. Very good work.

Who would have thought a good little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness.

Very picturistic.. *sighs at spelling*   I really enjoyed reading this and the images it brought to mind.. Forgotten memories of the Smokies in all their fall glory..

With a little piece of tomorrow,
You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye.
Because today won't last forever,
And the past will only make you cry.
