Calico Of Real

Stretched out before me
and knotted with love
many years cloaked by
many memories of
roses and rainbows
stitched into quilt
sunshines and shadows
a diary built.

The friendships embroidered
a history untold
a marriage, a birth
life's poems in fold
pieced of, my life
story in frame
joys, all my sorrows
created in name.

This patchwork of laughter
of tears, tenderness
of songs sung from childhood
of memories now missed
romancing my soul
as my skin has the feel
of this worn muslin backing
my calico of real.

Tossing and turning
and sleepless some nights
rushing of thoughts
come to mind, in moon's light
the first time you held me,
a pattern in time
remnants of colors
from calico rhymes.

With softness of fingers
I touch edge of squares
my past laid before me
my future to share
the small diamond patterns
the stars yellow, bright
in sunshine and shadow
in dark shades and light.

A loving tradition
is covering my skin
warming this body
this mind, from within
is a comforting quilt of
a story untold
pieced of my life
my poems unfold.

Reinforcing desire
replacing a knot
quilting an album
to not be forgot
I awaken, this canvas
each morning to see
pieces of treasure
a gold memory.

My hand passes over
the gentlest of strips
of velvets and flannels
as soft as my lips
that gently will kiss you
and arouse memories
the past moments shared
and the new yet to be.....

M....Sven's challenge of weaving romance reminded me of this one I wrote a few months back...although I will have to begin a new quilt now

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

so glad Brian brought this one top, for it is delicious!! Talk about weaving memories and romance, what other than a quilt..and a poem.  Calico reads flawless.
