On the road

just a short walk down to the betting shop
down Ginger Hill past the carpenter's hut
all curled yellow shavings flowing out the door
and waving in the wind
long ago
when the sun shone bright

a little village by Glasgow
surrounded by forest and field and moor
running in summer days
walking by lakes and sun warmed places
lying in beds cool and protected
we were so lucky but didn't know

visits to wild places at blackest midnight
pale under the moon and stars
walking together close friends
comfortable with years
happy to be there
safe in a timeless world

days upon days easy without stress
blessed and lucky
ageing so slowly
in a disappearing world
though we didn't know it
eternal we were without thought
just being among that peace

(I'm struggling at the moment to write any poems at all - maybe it's the heat - 30°+ here at the moment! This one is my vain attempt to break through the block...!

Well Alan, I think the block has been broken through. And very nicely I might add. Fantastic read.

Allan; If this is your poetry during a dry spell, I can't wait to see what happens when you are inspired! i love the flow and gentle feel of this poem, beautiful! Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

~Allan,...I have to tell you that I am ever so glad that I decided to stop by this one. Ooh, a gentle little ride through and by this place. *sigh*,...this one I would love to hear read to me...sitting peacefully, eyes closed,....and calm. *sigh* aaah. Don't think I'm nuts please. Your words are just so soft and pleasing to me. Thank you for this. Take care of yourself. *Peace.

Thank you for all your very kind comments...

Spitfire, that's a lovely idea, best place would be in The Best Bar, Main Street, Milngavie (pron. Millguy) the village (my hometown)... If we could just be be magically transported back about 30 years or so....

Allan I do believe that your block must have been overcome.  This is outstanding, you just took me back to a wonderful time in life with your words.  Ginger Hill, felt as if I were there.  Beautiful piece.  Bonnie

I like Ginger Hill ....sounds like a place I knew....back then when things were rising and exciting ..youths blind ego..blurred it a little..but the reflection's quite nice.

Enjoyed this Allan

Well now, I wouldn't call that struggling, allan, you daft thing. You had me longing for a past I didn't experience!
Count yourself lucky you're getting at bit of sun btw, it IS meant to be summer, remember, though it's difficult to recall that fact in these parts, this year. I remember when ... (blablabla)
