The letter came just the other day,
Wonderful things it had to say,
It was an invitation, just for me,
From the Famous Poets Society!

It seems my poem, "Moonbeams Haiku",
Was seen worthy in their esteemed view,
For me to give an oral presentation,
At their annual Poetry Convention!

And a prized medallion, just for me,
Because of this, my Haiku poetry,
And me, the Poet of the Year?
Now doesn't that seem a little queer!

I'm to get a "Prometheus Trophy" too,
My, what honors they issue!
And I get to walk with Dr. Kenneth Fan,
The Poet Laureate of all China land.

Dr. Fan is bringing gifts for me,
From his home near the China Sea,
And then I learn to my surprise,
I get to compete for a grand cash prize!

I could majestically walk away,
Being crowned " Famous Poet Laureate of 2K",
All my dreams they may fulfill,
All based on seventeen syllables!

This poem is based on an actual leter I recieved.
You just can't believe everything you read!!!If you would like to see it for yourself send me a request by email to dlynnn@hotmail.com  and I will try to send it to you. LET THE POET BEWARE!    Dennis :^)

Very nice Dennis, this piece was amusing beggining to end.  I too was chosen to come read at that Poets Society, my poem, however, was not so great, a runner-up you see.  But still I got published in thier book (along with anyone who submitted)..the funny thing is is that I got invited to all these things (the medallion I remember that), they even tried to get me to pay to have my poem put to music!!!  Thanks for the read, dude!

Well, my friend, a big good luck going to you on the grand! You receive top honors here, patiently helping all of learn about Haiku's-then submitting them-then,...how you managed to become Mr. King of Haiku's....so that's how it's done..       you know I said in fun.
And.... good job on poem! Enjoyed.  marcy

Hi again, Now, I was trying to be nice & kinda sorta thought you were making light of the rip-off. btw, they finally decided they were not going to get book money out of me so recently I received a fantastic discount-
my poem was considered so good, I can now pay them ONLY $49.95 to have my poem framed!!    The last I checked, I could get two frames for five bucks.

what would you do without ms.ellie straighten out all your congradulations! including mine.

what honors they do offer
and at such a fabulous price!
Dr. Fan is blowing-
But whatever it is ain't nice!
We all like to be honored-
But not suckered as gulible fools-
It really does amaze me
What blatant apeals they use.
Thank you for the warning, Den
Someone's pocketbook will be spared,
Which would have been sucked dry by the "FAN"
But not so- because you shared!

I find the matter both amusing and appauling-
I hope our fellow poets-don't get sucked into this veritable Poetic Black Hole.
            Thank you Brother,
                      David

Dennis my friend,
Where should I begin
I too fell the fool
But thanks to friends
like you I pulled through.
Great piece of warning to heed
for all I hope read and see.
