Soapstone heart of mine
Pocketed upon my breast
Absorbing the warmth

Glistening in morn
Brings a smile to the sadness
Kept locked up inside

Maureen,

Precious memory
In sterling silver locket
Warmed by hearts desire

I hope I didn't stray to much from your original theme! I like your verse.

Playful shadows dance

this is a terrific piece..very well done Moonchild..

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

no Dennis I have a gift of a soapstone heart
that was carved for me and I hold it close to my heart

Where It Will Always Remain

I reach into my pocket
every now and then
and there it remains,
always with me,
a heart of stone.
Fingering it's shape
sight unseen, every curve
smooth and cool
until warmed by my touch.

When my fingers take hold
do you feel the warmth?
You have carved meaning
into my life
and for that I will always
be greatful.
Only good memories
shall I know with each touch
of my heart.

yes a gift of heart is a nice thing especially when handmade from a part of the earth..if only the person who sent it to me would realize that friendships can last forever, as  do memories even if love cannot
~~soft thanks

Very beautiful, Maureen! Until yesterday I didn't know what 'soapstone' was. I came upon it in a shop near work where some items were carved from it...very beautiful they were! As is your poem!
