A candle flickers dimly in a corner of the room,
shadows dance eerily, slicing through the gloom.
He sits, lost in dreams, hands tight across his knees,
outside in deepest night, wind rustles through the trees.

His thoughts drag aimlessly, through a cloud of hazy rust,
searching fot the answer in a brain he cannot trust.
He never thought that it could have ended just this way,
so lonely now, and heartsick, in a room across the bay.

Across the bay from one whose sweetness he did seek,
who needed him to to say the words he simply could not speak.
To say how much he loved her, how much he really cared,
so difficult for him you see, his heart he never bared.

From anyone, those loved or not, he hid his deepest thought,
of life and love and other things, such wonders to be sought.
So tightly shut, away from those that really mattered then,
not likely now in times like these that he would see a friend.

He could not sow, and harvested the wind in lavish measure,
bereft of that one thing so dear he truly did so treasure.
Night envelops him, not snugly, in damp and dreary clutch,
she is lost to him forever now, the one he loved so much.

The candle flickers dimly, shadows dance across the walls,
he sits in silent grief, through cracks of misery he falls.
Alone, not thought of much in any kindly way,
he dreads the coming of the dark and endless day.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

beutifully written poem and so sad. This reminds me of my father. So sad!  ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

very sad indeed..when one cannot bare his heart...  i learned the hard way to always say my "i love you's" no matter how hard, no matter how much of a risk...i dont like to leave things undone, unsaid..people need to know...

good writing!  dg

Beautifully done. I could sense the heartache and longing in this. Very sad.
