I’ve Been in Bluegrass Country

I’ve been in bluegrass country
I have known the feel of pride
Courage, faithfulness, and love
And beauty by my side

A stallion and a thoroughbred
A horse with heart of gold
A spirit faithful to the end
In stories never told

That horse became my closest friend
A vital loving part
His blood ran through my very veins
And spirit through my heart

I left that place of bluegrass hills
Encased in serpent fence
To follow one I thought I loved
And lived the consequence

All the traits so beautiful
I learned and cherished so
Were missing in the man I loved
Who left me long ago

Kentucky is not now my home
But always plays a part
Of everything I value
That now dwells within my heart

The loyalty, the love and trust
The honor that I know
Were etched into my spirit
By a stallion long ago

A fitting tribute to a most noble beast, as well as fond remembrance of youth and life.  Very well written.  But I have to wonder, what was the horse's name?

It's very lovely, Liz

- James
The beauty of nature is displayed,
not through itself,
but through the creatures
dwelling within its bosom.

This is lovely, Liz. I want to hear this whole story sometime. love, ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.
