As I walked down the street
Sunlight glinting in my eyes
I took no notice
Of all those passing by

In their cars, on the sidewalk,
Or skating through the street
I took no notice
Of those people I wouldn't meet

And as I walked through the glen,
Through the wide open space
I didn't take notice
And proceeded on, post-haste

Racing around the town
With no warning, I stumbled
As the enormous blue bus,
before my eyes, did rumble

Death had just knocked
He now knew I was listening
And his gift was right there
On the sidewalk square, glistening

A little green marble
Soon picked up by a man
Who said," I'm so sorry ma'am,
This was left by my son."

I knelt down to the boy
Who couldn't have known
The treasure he had given
With this marble he'd thrown

I put out my hand
He then put out one too
And with a solemn handshake
The couple withdrew

This gigantic world
All crowded and cluttered
Was filled with new mysteries
That before, hadn't mattered

So from then on I smiled
At every passer by
Locking eyes for an instant
And then walking on by

Death can come in an instant
And we all should take notice
That the smallest gesture
Could put our lives back in focus

Hey everyone...I know I've been away for a long time.  Work Work Work...I'm consumed by it!  But, I still read most of your work, even though I really have no time to reply--I apologize.  Hopefully, the future will give me some breaks.

Take Care Everyone,

Jamie

Yes I loved this one. those magical moments that come along now and then to bring ourselves back in focus - that daily life is a miracle that we do get too lazy to see, that those people ARE worth anotther look and probably even a friendship, hug... I love that feeling of awaking from a dream and realising how wonderful it is to be alive....

Beautifully created!

And I really liked the inclusion of a glen in your poem Wikket! (being a Scot myself)...

wikket: this is so true..how we go about our daily lives just breathing and not realizing how thats not enough..its necessary to be aware of whats around us if we are to truly live..

great story, well written

Thank you LakeWalker, Allan 'The Scott', Jon, and dg--I'm glad you liket it!

Jon, I remember you too, and I do read your poems quite often even though I really never get the time to comment.  Your poetry is very deep and pure...you have much talent!   Keep it up!

Allan...alas...poor Jamie is an Irish lass, but I still like your word 'glen.'  Thanks for your comments!
