The Swimmer Lying in my bed unkempt with crumpled slept-on pillows sheets strewn and twisted as the swimmer's colloid hair spilled atop the twighlight shore. Exhaustion ebbs away as breath alone feigns motion. Then . . . The oft recurring thought comes circling as a gull: I must arise once more and stem the sea another day. 11/1999 |
