chasing acorns in the sun--
she marvels at each new
treasure
she squeals with glee
as she stoops to see
every mushroom, leaf,and rock...
she points to the birds
with a dramatic gasp,
chases the puppy
for one quick pat
proudly, she laughs
in the sun-spattered splash
of a water puddle...

my little girl--
my lucky pearl
dont grow until tomorrow--
for we can never catch tomorrow...

stay little for one more day--
smile and giggle and squeal
carry acorns in your pockets
give your generous gifts
of leaves and mangled flowers
jump and dance and splash
and...dont eat those mushrooms!

What a lovely poem describing the innocence of a child...she sounds like a beautiful little girl!

DgVarner,
Alas, they grow so fast, wish mine could have stayed small and innocent longer than they did. Childhood is so precious, and too soon over! Let us cherish it while we can!
Nice poem!

Every second is a joy as children explore their universe, so full of life, and spirit of excitement. I love your poem, it brings childrens laughter to my mind.

Oh this is so cute!! Nope, I am definitely hooked on your poetry now, dg.. ^_^
Hehe.. mushrooms, yeah i remember having a run in with some mushrooms when I was little; I'd just skipped across the other side of the lawn, in between the 'mushrooms', and my brother told me they were poisonous.. I was terrified to go back, 'coz I thought they might 'get me'! ^_^ hehe.. joie sounds so cute, hehe..
