As the incessant
spiteful squabbling
of my parents callously
vibrates around the walls,
never allowing
a weary disheartened soul any repose

As they hurl things
at each other and
jeer vicious insults,
my strong supportive pillars
suddenly collapse,
crushing a broken heart
with ten thousand tons of burden

I instinctively grab
a book, desperate for
words of warmth and hope,
ingredients that my own parents
can't furnish

I feel like my fairy godmother has morphed me
I am a soaring bird,travelling in awe
through fascinating lands of words
that poets have weaved ingeniously
with their all-mightly pens

Their worlds promise of
luxurious orange-red sunshine
rippling on soft gentle waves,
of melodious breezes flirting teasingly
with youthful green leaves,
of dancing clouds sharing
the night stage with sparkling diamond stars
All of these they weave and more

I am in a glorious state of equanimity
My heart is a still placid lake,
where nothing can ruffle
its peacefulness
My troubled soul
transforms miraculously
to calm, composed Zen,
almost as if
i were a monk,
enlightenment achieved

All my frustrations cast aside,
I no longer care
whether my parents are fighting
I no longer allow
them to manipulate my emotions
My mind now sings of serenity,
I go "hush, hush" at their domineering quarrels
and smile
at the words before me

Oh, how cool and delightful
Poetry is!

I unfortunatly can relate to your feelings...It is so good to have an escape that gives you peace...and to have a positive outlet during such a tough situation is great!

Kaile, Wow, I love what you wrote here, and how you found poetry as your salvation. There is a wonderful voice within poetry, and it is very tranquil most of the time. Thanks for taking the challenge and soaring to such great heights with it.

Kaile, I understand exactly how you felt. I went through the same thing just when I was taking GCE 'O's *sigh* That was a dreadul period, and I hid in my room and cried... But that's over now, no problem, and I've too, learned to handle it by doing something that calms my nerves.
