Dr. Korbel

This secret, this bottle, easy comfort
this buddy, this pal, this painful need.
Dr. Korbel fires me up, washes smooth
grief’s masker, potent medicine indeed.

A round table with red tablecloth
dim light doesn't even cover the top.
Drunk and playing cards, for tomorrow
pretending pain is over, bleeding stopped.

Comfort in the knowing
once upon, we shall be again.
On that distant, glorious morning
sure gonna be good to see my friend.

For now, we have my brandy
smoked bottle with forgetfulness inside.
The days are easier to face with Dr. Korbel
keeps me from evil, revenge has died.

Round table in room with blue tile
playing cards, drinkin, and swearin some.
Pretending continues, prescribed for pain
a deep dark secret that has come undone.

Comfort in the knowing
once upon, we shall be again.
On that distant, glorious morning
sure gonna be good to see my friend.

i thought in the spirit of fairness,
that i ought to post this "rewrite"
of the piece that directly followed
the creation of "Never Ending Love".
Some folks thought it was courage
that kept me together during that time,
actually it was brandy 24/7. A more
deceptive or degenerate prescription
I have rarely encountered in my carrer
as a self-medicator...

Very painful, Daniel. It does take courage to be so brutally honest about ourselves. I admire that in a person.

I agree with denise...painful...yet u emerge stronger...pretense...something most of us turn to when unable to face the loss *S*
