NEVER ENDING LOVE

Puttering about the house this morn
a honey do here and a honey do there.
Found a worn out, chewed up,
old piece of suede leather.
My son's dog knew it before I did
he danced; singing in circles,
"Don't you remember?"
first the memories, then awe,
tears, finally love.

Carefully folding the tattered leather
putting my fingers through the holes
smelling the boy and his left behind dog.
Seemed there were tears in the dogs eyes
as he looked up to me for answers
answers I, in turn,
look to Heaven to dispense.

My son's dog and I found their toy this morn
oh how they loved to play tug,
hide and seek, and chase
my son's dog would growl and growl,
my son would laugh.
Oh, God in Heaven, how I miss his laugh
I laid the leather in the bed of my son's dog
with his cardboard and old blankets,
now there is comfort.

My son's dog can sleep with my son once again
thank you God for love, love that keeps us going
love that my son's dog holds in his heart.
Thank you,  dear Father, for that leather
for Your sweet, sweet, never ending love
Your love that knows the loss of a Son...

This was my first posted piece here in the forums.  I rewrote it to submit to another
magazine and thought i would share it here.
Perhaps it should have went in another forum...i donna know.  What do y'all think?
Is the rewrite effective?

thanks in advance for your help, friends!

Effective?  I think it's a very moving piece brought me to tears.  I don't do that often.

I can relate to this, when you lose a child we look for even the slighted trace or scent of the footsteps that child left on earth. Peace to you..my friend.

I too have lost a child and my heart is one with yours in the pain. This poem was so beautiful and also moved me greatly.Ellie

This is as close to tender pefections of the heart as you can get.
I feel the pain ...
but even more keenly ... I feel the love.

You've expressed your heart well in this Daniel.  How wonderful that you can still find treasures amidst the sorrow, 'tis amazing how someone up above knows just when to send us a little gift of remembrance and love. I was touched by this lovely poem.

Best wishes and prayers,
/Kit

This is simply wonderful construction of a poem..your departed son, his dog, the toy that used to play together with....amazing work, sir. I am very sorry for your loss. This is one of the best poems I wish had never had to be written.

Daniel, too many of us know what you have gone through...that you were able to put it to words is a testament to your belief in the Lord...

and I thank you for that...

no matter where you were to ever put this poem, its truth would ring out...

Daniel--I am touched by this poem!  I know the pain you feel from this little reminder and your dog's sweet memory of his friend.  My heart goes out to you and your family for your loss...and thankyou for sharing this poem from your heart!

This is an incredible poem!  You put heartbreak on the page with such a tender touch.  Beautifully and poignantly done.  I am a bereaved parent too, and so very sorry for your loss.
