There is somethin, deep inside.
Maybe it is foolish pride.
When a lass, I see today.
I have to run, I cannot stay.

She'll not appreciate, so I think.
Thus alone, I do retreat.
I am proud, for which I served.
To fight for, our flag unfurled.

Though I fought, in no world war.
Battle wounds, were still scored.
I was hit, from the side.
The first shot of that cold night.

A state side room, is where I woke.
I learned quick, it was no joke.
What the doctors, had to say.
I'd wish not on enemy prey.

Though while I still walk around.
My prides' been stripped, left on the ground
I've no control, of a simple thing.
That many folk do not think.

Is to them, that big a deal,
Unless aware, no jokes I'd feel.
Know this plays, a large part.
When I try to give my heart.

For what lass would like to be,
With a man just like me.
They make fun and even laugh.
It really hurts my pridefull past.

Kevin,

As you know this is my favorite poem that you've written to date. Keep up the great work. I'm proud to be able to vote for this poem into the book.

A poem with a story in it...prettily portrayed, meaningfully realistic. Vote! Hey keep it up, I look forward to MORE!! *S*

Well written Kevin.. an unusual view though, because no 'lass' who is worth it will judge you so.. this doesn't make you anyone, but youreslf.. and no less a person than u were before.. ^_^ a sad, lonely poem.. well done..

this one tugged at my heartstrings...oh, to feel unworthy of a lass because of his inability...the sad sentiments here will probably haunt me for a while
