Looking Back

Old tire swing
sways gentle in morning breeze.
It’s old, ragged rope
matching the limb it hangs upon.

Unused for so long
the rain has filled to overflowing.
Watching the wind
ripple and spill the water overboard.

A sob, then a laugh
as memories flood, then overcome.
Shaking of white-haired head
seeing the frenzy the tire once knew.

The boys would play
the tire would orbit dangerously.
Seemed every other day
a collision would bring fresh injury.

They didn’t care at all
busted lip, knots on head, black eyes.
Mama would nurse abit
and back they rushed  for more.

Now, the old tire
hangs unused, except for birdbath.
Old man with rusted, priceless memories
looking back, once upon a time.

bleeding...

"Tis ink coming
from his arm,
Captain!"

Oh, this poem is precious, full of childhood images of fun, yet the vision still provides a purpose.
