Absence of Angels

In a moment of calm amidst the chaos
I seek the faces of angels, but none are near
My heart crumbling and going to break
I say out loud to the world, but they don't hear
So I live without them and I try to do right
I try to live my best each day
I know they're around, just not right now
Still, each night for them I pray
There's not too much I believe in anymore
All I have left is faith and hope

Faith that in the  absence of angels I'll make it
And hope that they will get here soon.

I wrote this during one of many brief stays in foster homes.  Never did I find a caring family.  Its funny, a foster child, removed to better them and keep them away from abuse, sure does get to see a lot more of it in the system.  So I lived the best I could, praying everynight for the neccessary angels to come and protect me, they never came.  I grew.  I survived.

Darbo,

First and foremost, Welcome!
A very somber contribution you have submitted. I am glad that you survived...
I believe that angels come in all shapes and sizes.  Not all angels have feathery wings with halos. Some look like child-care providers, social workers, or even our best friend.  Sounds like, perhaps, you met a few angels along the way, but just didn't recognize them. I've been told that the only difference between a failure and a survivor is that the survivor doesn't give up.  I hope that you are doing ok now?  Again, I am so glad that you survived.

Very deep poem you have written here, your strength may have been enough to save the angels for you for when a time might come when they will be of real value. I do think many people are angels and sometimes we fail to recognize some cause they are so much like ourselves. Welcome to Passions I hope your stay with us is long. welcome to passions, darbo!
your ending really stays with this reader....they are written rather plain without much emotion but the subtle hints to the abyssal despair the poet is facing down inside is amazing.....

im glad you survived through those dark days   and i look 4ward to read more of your work

Somebody held my hand, while my eyes were crying
Somebody looked on me while my heart was sighing
Somebody spoke to me with my spirit trying
To make sense of this cruel and faithless world

An angel came to me in the cold dark spaces
An angel showed to me in all a million faces
She wiped away all my sorrows traces
I let her speak but I didn’t understand

And now I’m left with all this raging sadness
Left to swim in this torrent of madness
Perhaps she’ll return on my day of gladness
Return and open up my eyes ……..again

And now my soul is searching… reaching
Trying to memorise that angels teaching
But I can’t find it in vengeful preaching
Will not her love come back and rescue me

My hope lies now with that angel returning
So I can show to her all that I’m learning
For her right now my heart is burning
This yoke I’ll carry until she passes by

So if you see an angel ….weeping
It might just be when you are sleeping
Tell to her about this truth I’m keeping
Won’t you send her running back to me?

Hello Darbo and welcome to the friendliest
place on the web.

Darbo,
Angels are not always seen and don't have to be to accomplish their assigned task. Your survival probably has a angel beaming right now, knowing you'll go even  farther on your faith!
Welcome to Passions, sit down and tell us more, you have friends here! The White Knight :^)

Thanks guys,

I'm a little leary of displaying my poetry because all of your guys' is so good, but thanks for the responses.

I'm sorry Lost Dreamer, The card didn't get through.  But thank-you so much anyway.  It was very thoughtful.

I wrote this peom a little while ago before my eyes were open to the "angels without wings".  I realize now that it was precisely those angels I didn't see that got me this far.  So to all the angels, past, present, and future...THANKS!
