Could Be Anywhere...

“Hey, Dad!”

My father used to say,
“Same thing, only different”
and I thought, “How dumb!”
He spoke in paradox
a twinkle in his eye
his nose touching thumb.

World War veteran
a logger by trade
his ways seemed strange.
To baby boomer son
seeking peace and love,
he didn’t seem much of a sage.

Funny thing is...
the older I get
the smarter he becomes.
Scary thing is...
his words in my mouth
when teaching my sons.

Looking clearly back
I see his (and his) footprints
wisdom passed on down.
Life is so strange
years flow like water
who we are goes round and round.

Now a word of thanks
to the one who made
in so many ways.
Dad, I love you
and I hope and pray...
Happy Fathers Day!

from his arm,

A wonderful tribute to your "pappy".  When young how could we possibly imagine that one day we will emulate those that we just don't understand.

bleeding, I loved this tribute to your dad. I can relate to so much of it, via Mom. Just a beautifully written poem with warmth and love.  Blessings, Marcy

Exellant.  I realize while reading this how important a father is and it stirs up quite a bit.
