While walking in the Cretian Gardens,
In the gardens of ancient past,
i came to a wrought iron doorway.
I wished to venture forth, but the gate's lock held fast.

Fatigued with my walk & the frustration of barred door,
i sat at the foot of a tall willow tree,
propped my head 'gainst the knobby bark
& watched the branches sway with enamored glee.

Gazing up,towards the sky,i note
an especially nestled & hollowed knob
in a branch some feet above the earth.
In the ensuing breeze it continued to bob.

I caught sight of an object,
something that should not be there,in nature's crook.
My curiosity heightened,i rose & pulled the branch down
with a tug at a nearby twig,to have a look.

What i saw was extroidinary,indeed & strange.
For in that musty seat layed a golden key....
I turned it over & over in my hand, caressing the brassy smooth.
What was the purpose of such a fine tool, for what could it be??¿

I pondered & strangely knew ,it was a key,to the gate i had stopped at.
I tucked it into my hand & revisited the bound gate,
i slipped the key into the lock & turned.
The anticipation grew,i did not hesitate.

I opened the door slowly. It scraped the stones below.
The veiw had taken a coloring from my dreams,
there were lilies, roses,& blue bells growing
& shrouded in them,a stone, off the smoothed surface sunlight gleamed.

It was a gravestone,a tomb.
I read the inscription & the name.
It said "My love i will miss you,you were my purpose."
July 7,the deceased:Alexandra Brame.

The date of death,i saw,was recent.
Not but some ten years gone by.
I was intrigued, very much fascinated by the surroundings.
More about this story,i must find, must try.

I wrote down the name,the date,the words
& left the lonely grave behind,
left the garden & place the key back in hiding.
What was the story about the mysterious event & the enshrined??¿

I came back to the gardens with out an answer.
I went to the willow tree, but the key was gone!!
I walked swiftly to the before locked door,
but it stood ajar, surely this was wrong??¿

I drew it open, slowly so as not to make a sound.
I peaked inside to see who could be there??¿
It was a man,tall & pale.
His hair was dark & black, but his skin itself was fair.

He had a face,like chisled stone,the features sharp & harsh,but smooth.
Grave yard eyes,gray looked out,mournful.
His stature small,thin & boney.
The gaze he aimed toward the stone was loving, yet scornful.

I wondered at this scene & assumed she was his love.
His gaze so tragic & full of affection,a look i'll never forget.
His stare faltered & he glanced to see me.
His expression as if to say "you've discovered my secret."

But neither of us said a word,we stood in silence,
And regarded the grave before us with sorrow.
For some time we stood this way, gazing at the marker.
Then he said he loved her,she was his life, but she had lived only to harrow.

She plundered, soiled,& robbed the heart of many a man.
He was the only one who loved her truely.
But she was careless with his love,
still hurt him,treated cruely.

He said he would mourn he death forever.
He had long ago forgave her.
He wished she hadn't died,
Wished he could have saved her.

He buried her here,alone.
He planted the flowers she loved,
buried her in the gardens she adored,
& would for her, have draped the sky above.

His story deeply touced me.
We left the garden, locked the gate, went in seperate ways.
He vanished,i never saw him again,
but when i visit the place, once in awhile,i see he leaves flowers,on the grave they lay,
& a note that says "i miss you"..........

WOW! I don't have any ideas for a title, but that most certainly was a well told story.   Powerful, sad, joyful in an odd way.   I think I'll have to read it again for an even better understanding. It feels like there are some things i missed.

Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau"

Enthralling Swampy. I think this is my favourite one from you. How about Willow Key?

SwampF,
I enjoyed everything about this one. The setting, "Cretian Gardens", the mystery, the surroundings of beauty worded perfectly. The
keeper of the gate holds dear his lost love inside. Beautiful. Marcy
