Walking home from work one day
Keeping my sanity straight
I came upon a little boy
Who was but nearly eight

I stopped with such a suddeness
I could not comprehend
The boy was staring right at me
Making my courage bend

This boy sat happily on a branch
In the nearest tree to me
His eyes focused upon a point,
Which only he could see

The hairs on my neck stood erect
I shuddered with great fear
For blood trickled slowly from his lip
And directly behind his ear

Such deep sadness flowed within
My heart sank into this flow
And then, as if he had his cue
He quickly took on a glow

My eyes could not understand
The unreality taking place
And with that the boy dissapeared
Directly in front of my face

For days this occurence stayed with me
The fire lit within me did burn
Yet nothing I did brought him back
I could not make him return

And eventually my life went on
I forgot what I had seen
It was like the vision itself
Had really never been

But after a hard days work
That left me feeling such despair
I took myself to a local bar
And sat down in a chair

I ordered the strongest coffee there
Two sugars I poured right in
And as I stirred, I looked up
And focused upon a grin

The wall I faced held pictures tight
Pictures of days long past
The one that held my attention now
Had a shadow it did not cast

The boy in the picture was nearly eight
His eyes staring straight ahead
The clothes were slightly out of date
But now I knew that he was dead

And from that golden moment on
I've questioned all that never made sense
For you never know when it's something real
Or when it's just coincidence...

"I keep breaking all the promises
That I keep making to myself
You'd think by now that I'd be over this
Instead I'm feeling sorry for myself
So why does everything seem desperate now?
I should be feeling so alive
But it feels like something's missing
Something's wrong somehow
It feels like something deep inside has died..."

Thank you, Yu Lan! Actually, these were events that actually occurred in my life.  I always took them to be some kind of wierd alcohol induced dream, but I was sober both times they occured in two seperate states.  I don't know, eventually I hope to know what really happened to the boy (I hope).  This is a mystery I'll ponder for a while!  ~~Jamie

Jamie,
Your poem was most delightful and intriging,
So many things happen- that are beyond our understanding--but make life interesting.  You may never know the riddle of your experience--but you do know someone want you to know about it.  Take care,  David

Well you know I like a good story right.

Well this is a good story.

As I have said before good art comes sometimes from extreme experiences and this,in my opinion, is good art wikket search your memories for more.

It is such experiences in life that make one one wonder at the complexities that surround us. Intriging and extremely readable.

David--very true!  And, since someone 'lit the fire' I guess I'll spend my off time trying to figure it out!

Jon--well, I'm pleased you like my story.  One thing is for sure, because of this story, I'll never look at events that happen in the same light again...

Lizzie--I'm glad this captured your attention for awhile!  Thanks for your comments!!!

breezeinnc--I definately agree!  Aren't you glad that there are a few poetic ppl like us in the world to tell the story?!  Thanks for your commments!

I like this one lots. Good story and a nice flow to it.
