A young man built a castle formed of solid gold
It was to be life’s shelter for me when I got old
My dreams were quietly stored within its stone built walls
As I dreamed I wrapped them and draped them on the walls
The hallways were so long it would take a whole lifetime
To take them and relive them but I’d know they were all mine

The future that I had built it seemed so sure for me
But whilst I built my vaults……. my life I did not see
My castle stood so proud decked with my visions bold
But as trough life I wandered the days grew short and cold
In my time of building I thought I saw the truth
But now in recollection it’s hidden in my youth

It came in fleeting glimpses it passed before my eyes
It sat proudly on my shoulder it voice was battle cries
Through a young mans cloudy thoughts you know you can’t be wrong
It bites into your conscience but you just…. carry on
You don’t take any action it would go against the grain
And love is such a freedom song it dries your tears and eases pain

And now the leaves are falling around my castle walls
I shove the door wide open go tearing through the halls
I wipe my eyes and look again search vainly for my dreams
But the bareness that is waiting there has shattered all my schemes
So as you live your young charged life the advice I give to you
Store your dreams in love and truth……. a castle just won’t do

Jon you continue to outdo yourself.  This sounds like a pretty barren castle.  The dreams and schemes we have when we're young!  But all for naught if powered by the wrong reasons.

Very good advice, Jon. Once that time is gone, it is gone forever. Great poem!

Yesterday your question
I'd answer here somehow
But I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now!

Youth is full of viggor,
Full of charging in head long.
Youth is full of running for,
The sound of true love's song.

Years are full of wisdom,
Full of knowing what is true.
Years are full of loving,
Knowing it's inside of you.

As we age we mellow,
See the beauty of the world.
Living life for each day,
Not for the next to be unfurled.

This was a wonderful read. Thankyou for sharing it with us.

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shodows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face...

Awwwww Jon...somewhere in the depths of my soul, I understand the truth of the advice in this poem.  'Tis a pity I did not understand sooner.  Great!  ~~Jamie

"I keep breaking all the promises
That I keep making to myself
You'd think by now that I'd be over this
Instead I'm feeling sorry for myself
So why does everything seem desperate now?
I should be feeling so alive
But it feels like something's missing
Something's wrong somehow
It feels like something deep inside has died..."
